Kiwi's Food Log

This is a log which I record the memorable foods I have eaten in the past, because you will never know if one day you can't eat some of your favourite food anymore and it slowly slips out of your memory...

Raw oyster

Taste: ♥♥♥♥♥

Location: Tomari Iyumachi

Price: Don't remember

First taste: 1 Jun 2023

Normally, I don't like oysters, the flavour just isn't my taste. And when we got there, my tour mate recommended me to try the raw oysters. I hesitated, but I gave in due to peer pressure lmao. Surprisingly, it tasted so FRESH, it is unlike any other oysters I had ate. It doesn't taste that fishy, but instead it is mildly sweet, just the way I like seafood. Til this day (8 Nov 2024), I still haven't found any oysters taste as good as that.

Mister Donut donuts

Taste: ♥♥♥♥

Location: Mister Donut (Japan)

Price: I forgor

First taste: 1 Jun 2023

I was walking around the mall while many stores are starting to close due to typhoon, when I noticed a donut store. There isn't a lot of tasty donuts in Hong Kong (they taste soggy and the chocolate taste like wax 😔), so I never pass up an opportunity to get a tasty donut when I'm overseas. As I was looking at the different flavours, an employee came up to me with a bag of donuts, saying the store is closing, and she gave me (and other customers) the donuts as a gift.

I am especially big fan of the mochi donuts, I like the chewiness. But I think the most memorable part is how I got gifted free donuts, I have never experienced something like this.

Chicken wing ciabatta sandwich

Taste: ♥♥♥♥♥

Location: Near my home

Price: Prob around HKD$50

First taste: 7th grade

It is my sister that recommended me this place. The boneless chicken wing ciabatta sandwich is very delicious, the bread is toasty, the meat is juicy and tender, and as you bite into it, the flavour comes together harmoniously. It is something that helped me got through my parent's divorice (sorry if this make the tune sad), this sandwich always bring me comfort to my stomach.

Sadly the store closed down, and I have never tasted any sandwich as good as this one...

School canteen ham omulet

Taste: ♥♥♥♥♥

Location: My primary school

Price: HKD$20 I believe

First taste: Prob 4th grade

I love buying snacks ever since I was a kid, and I always go to the canteen to check out any tasty food. My favourite from it is the ham omulet. I feel like ham isn't that tasty, but the omulet is so flavourful and juicy, I would lick the bowl clean. I think it's a time I bought three bowls of them because they are so irresistable. I wonder if they still sell these back there...

Crunchy strawberry chocolate

Taste: ♥♥♥♥♥

Location: My local Wellcome supermarket

Price: I forgor

First taste: Don't remember :(

I was craving some chocolate, and randomly bought this chocolate from the supermarket, and HOLY SHIT IT IS SO BANGER!!! What's so special about this chocolate is that the chocolate is made with layers, like croissants (idk how to explain), and between the layers, there's a lot of space. So when you bite into it, it feels like eating crackers, it's so cripsy!!!! I still have no idea why they stopped selling these, they are so fantastic :(((

Tomato Drink

Taste: ♥♥♥♥

Location: hana-musubi (Hong Kong)

Price: I forgor

First taste: 2020 I think

Years ago, there's this drink I really enjoy buying along with onigiri. Common tomato juice is very tasty, but this one is very flavourful and it even has tomato bits inside, adding to the texture. It it the kind of drink you would want to have frequently, but for some reason the place stopped selling them? They have corn soup now but it isn't as good as this tomato drink...

7-11 Chicken Breast

Taste: ♥♥♥♥♥

Location: 7-11 (Hong Kong)

Price: HKD$21

First taste: Nov 5 2024

Recently, my sister gave me a bite of chicken breast she bought from the nearby 7-11. I used to think that chicken breasts don't have a good texture on it's own, but shockingly, despite the texture being a bit rough, it tastes quite good! So lately when I'm in a hurry but I'm feeling hungry, I'll go buy one on my way.

The flavour is savoury and kinda juicy, and for some reason I kinda dig the rough texture. The only downside is that there's a bit of a bitter aftertaste I don't know where it comes from.

Gin Curry omurice

Taste: ♥♥♥♥♥

Location: Gin Curry (Hong Kong)

Price: Like HKD$40-ish?

First taste: Around 6th grade?

Man it used to be so good, during secondary school, I always go there to have lunch. But it seems the quality slowly dropped over the years, sometimes the egg layer is undercooked, and the curry doesn't have much flavour at all. It is such a shame...

School canteen chicken fingers

Taste: ♥♥♥♥♥

Location: My old secondary school

Price: Quite cheap, but I forgor

First taste: During secondary school

During secondary school, I went to the canteen a lot, cuz I need snacks to replenish my sanity. There's something called chicken fingers I think (chicken breast cut into slices and fried), and I LOVED them. They are so flavourful and juicy, I would rush down to the playground to get them before they get sold out.

What's more is that if you managed to get the freshest batch, it would be even more juicy and delicious, you wouldn't believe how tasty they are. I wonder if it is reasonable to visit my secondary school just to get a taste of them again...

Soba noodles in 7-11

Taste: ♥♥♥♥

Location: 7-11 (Japan or Taiwan)

Price: Reasonable (I forgor)

First taste: 2019

It's such a shame that there's no soba noodles in Hong Kong's 7-11, it is such a tasty meal. The few times that I went to Taiwan and Japan, I always get this at least once in my trip (Wait did I get it in my Tokyo trip?). If there's this meal availible here, I would love to have convenience store food more!
